5 Ways to Create a Calm Space to Improve Your Sleep

Sleep. It’s one of the most important things we do.

Sleeping keeps our mind and body healthy, and a good night’s rest is the best way to prepare for your day ahead. So what can you do to ensure you have the best night’s slumber?

At Harrison Cropper, Garstang blind and curtain suppliers, we firmly believe that your bedroom should be your sanctuary. With that in mind, we have put together a quick list of ways to help improve your sleep.

5 Ways to Create a Relaxing Bedroom Environment for a Better Night's Sleep

1. Control the lighting

Ideally, to help you fall asleep, your bedroom such be pitch black. This means turning off TVs, putting your phone on do not disturb and blocking any outside light. Blackout curtains are perfect for this, working wonders to improve your sleep. Blackout curtains not only block out streetlights and passing car headlights, but also help to reduce noise; ensuring a peaceful night’s sleep.

2. Keep your room clutter free

Remove anything from your room that doesn’t need to be there and ensure the things that live in your bedroom have neatly put away. Storage boxes and baskets such as our White Dip Seagrass Storage Basket are the perfect way to declutter a room. As the saying goes a cluttered room is a cluttered mind.

3. Choose calming colours

The colour scheme in your room should create a calming soothing feel, free of loud and vibrant colours and clashing prints. Ideally your room décor should be neutral, this include the colour of your made to measure curtains and your bedspreads. Soothing blues and greens will create a calming effect and can help improve your sleep.

4. Get in touch with your senses

Creating a calm room isn’t just about pleasing the eye, but our other senses too. Filing the room with natural scents is a proven way to help improve sleep.  Spray your pillow with a room spray before bed or light a scented candle such as the Midnight Jasmine Yankee Candle  (make sure to blow it out before you go to sleep!).  Not only will your room smell beautiful, but the soothing scents will also help to calm your mind.

5. Furnish with tactile fabrics

Soft fabrics such as cotton soft bedding and fluffy rugs will add to the cosiness of your room. Scratchy bedding can interrupt your sleep and make bedtime unenjoyable, whereas soft bedding will have you travelling to the land of nod in no time. Place a fluffy rug by the side of your bed, making sure to rub your feet across the same before each night, by making this a habit you’ll trick your mind into thinking its bed time each time you feel the fluffy rug between your toes.
