Grandma’s Cookies: My Love for Baking
Many of us have something they associate their Grandma with; maybe it’s a signature scent, a certain brand of biscuit or even a style of cardigan. For me, it’s baking. Every visit to Grandma involved endless baking, hours of laughing and arguments between my siblings and when it came to licking the spoon. We would also debate who made the best cakes, however it was always me of course. Baking takes me back to being a young, convincing my grandma that I was a big enough girl to put the baked treats in the oven. Nothing quite makes me smile like remembering her delicious cookies; how the chocolate chips oozed out when you took a bite. No matter how hard I try, I cannot recreate them, and as much as I beg, granny wont share the secret recipe!
Its not just me who has a passion for baking. With thanks to shows such as the Great British Bake Off, we as a country have fallen in love with traditional baking once more. For the last few months, with no choice but to stay home, amateur bakers all over the country have gotten their Mary Berry on, filing their homes with amazing smells of freshly baked scones and cakes. And let’s be honest, fattening their loved ones up with as much cake as they can eat throughout lockdown.
