Article: How to Style Your Rented Property

How to Style Your Rented Property

With most rental properties, the landlords may include a clause in your lease that states you are unable to decorate the property. Yet its only human nature to want to put your own personal stamp on the place you call home. With this in mind, at at Harrison Cropper, Garstang interior shop, have put together a list of ways you can put your own stamp onto your property without breaking the rules (or the bank).

Utilise the wall space by adding wall art and décor

Our range of canvas wall art is a sure way to dress up an otherwise plain room by  using command strips to hang all pictures and frames to ensure there is no damage to the wall. An added plus of using wall art such as canvases to decorate a room is that it can easily be swapped out and changed. This is exactly what we do in our Garstang gift shop so that we can easily switch out any pictures we sell on a daily basis. This way, we are always on top of the latest trends to ensure your home décor stays as trendy and fashionable as you.

Bring a dull sofa to life by adding statement cushion covers

At Harrison Cropper we are big believers that statement soft furnishings can take a room from dull to fabulous in 0.5 seconds. Our range of woodland animal and checked prints are a fast way to bring the outdoors in and add an air of class and sophistication to the room.

Alternatively, our luxury velvet cushions and velvet cushion covers add texture and class ready for when the dark nights roll in. Adding a stylish cushion to a tired old sofa or bed is a cheap and easy way to vamp it up and give it a new lease of life. By allowing our soft furnishings to do the talking the eye is tricked into thinking the room is fully decorated.

Add character to your room with a striking lampshade

At Harrison Cropper we sell a range of handmade lampshades that instantly add a unique focual point and will be the envy of all your guests.  Adding a striking lampshade to your home can instantly add character, whether you want a more rustic style lampshade with wildlife or florals, or a more glamorous shade with lush velvets and bling.

Use Mirrors to lighten dark spaces

We have said it before and we’ll say it again, mirrors work wonders when it comes to brightening up a room. As a renter you can't go knocking walls down to add space and light, but you can use the clever hack of placing a mirror opposite a natural light source to allude to a bigger room and create more light.  By placing a mirror opposite the window, we are allowing the light to reflect back into the room, creating a sense of space and clever ticking the eye into believing the room in bigger and lighter then it actually is. If you're unable to knock holes into your walls, try placing the mirror on top of your drawers or console and lean it against the wall.

Use soft furnishing and furniture to add colour into the room

Chances are your rented home has been decorated with a neutral colour scheme, and for those of us that love colour this can be disheartening. However, a simple way to brighten up a space is by using vibrant soft furnishing to add a pop of colour. This can be anything from our beautiful cushions and throws to our striking lampshades.
