Christmas is quickly approaching (eeep!) and the strange times we’re living in have made us appreciate our loved ones more. With this, we’ve noticed more and more customers seeking out thoughtful gifts. But what are the origins of gift giving?
The History of Gift Giving
It's believed that gift giving is one of the oldest human activities, dating all the way back to caveman times. Gifts weren’t exactly wrapped up in a nice box with a ribbon, but the giving of items found in nature such as rocks, animal teeth and rare fruits was common.
These gifts showed appreciation, while gaining trust and establishing peace with fellow cavemen. The basic human instinct of gift giving has always been present - it’s a psychology that runs deep within us.
Giving Gifts Allows Us To Connect
Humans are social creatures. We’re always seeking true connections with other people in our lives and gifts allow us to do just that - connect. We give gifts in the hope the receiver will feel special and loved. But, in return, we also feel great giving them.
